Folkestone’s Armed Forces Day is on 30 June 2012. The event, starting at 12pm at the Leas Bandstand, is free for families and communities to celebrate and honour our Armed Forces – past, present and future. Many local young people and Cadet Forces and Army Units will be coming together to honour our Veterans. Joining them, amongst many others, will be The Band of the Brigade of Gurkhas and the Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment’s parachute display team, “The Tigers”, sky diving into the sea, where they will be recovered by the local rescue boat team. People will be able to visit stalls that show what the Armed Forces do and what support they have when they leave. Many of the stalls include the British Limbless Ex-Serviceman’s Association, Royal British Legion and the Bomb Disposal Squad amongst many others. The day’s programme is as follows:
12:00 Welcome/Introductions (Terry Begent - Bandstand) The Band of the Brigade of Gurkhas with the Standard Bearers of Ex-Service Associations opening up the proceedings.
12:40 Blue Notes - A young jazz band from South East Kent
12:55 Air Cadets Band
13:15 Kent Army Cadets - performing a field craft demonstration
13:30 Ashik Gurung – A young local singer performing some recent hits
13:55 Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment’s parachute display team can be seen from The Leas parachuting into the sea
14:15 Cultural dancing & singing performed by Folkestone Nepalese Community
14:25 The F&H Sea Cadets Band
14:50 Guildhall CIC Primary Choir
15:15 Café IT performing
15:30 Shorncliffe Military Wives Choir
15:45 Lowering of the flags and a prayer for all our heroes.
