Senator Barry M. Goldwater – politician, ham radio operator, western art collector, aviator, and master photographer. His interest in the people and places of Arizona ran deep and he decided to build his own historical record of the state.

He carried a camera with him everywhere he went and it became an extension of Goldwater himself. Over the next thirty years, during his travels of his home state, the United States, and the world, he took 15,000 photographs and over 25 miles of film.

Instructed by local photographer Tom Bate, inspired by Edward Weston and Ansel Adams, Goldwater developed a talent for photography that would be recognized worldwide.
