Our traditional concert in recognition of Women’s History Month promises to be an evening that’s both honoring and empowering. As in past seasons, we will offer songs that tell the stories of women and their struggles for peace, family, equality and purpose. Among the pieces performed will be Gwyneth Walker’s A Woman Is Not a Potted Plant from a poem by Alice Walker and Largo from Symphony No. 9 by Dvorak. The latter is from the vocal orchestra music arranged by Margaret Dryburgh who arranged orchestral and piano music for fellow prisoners in the WWII prison camp at Sumatra. The amazing story of Ms. Dryburgh and her Vocal Orchestra was told in the film Paradise Road.
