Immigrant Jews were deeply involved in the creation of the first comic book, the first super heroes, and the first graphic novel, and also helped to develop the underground “Comix” movement of the late 1960s and early 1970s. In this funny and revealing lecture, complete with film and video clips, comic book and MAD Magazine writer and cartoonist Arie Kaplan tells the stories of these Jewish comics pioneers and demonstrates how they brought a uniquely Jewish perspective to their work and to the comics industry as a whole. A book signing follows the program.
