All the well-born young ladies in the village are in love with two contrasting poets: a "fleshly" poet and an "idyllic" poet who, in turn, are in love with the simple village milkmaid, Patience. Not willing to be shunted aside, the ladies' military suitors determine to become "aesthetic" too, if that's what it takes to win the women's hearts. A light-hearted spoof of all who take their art a little too seriously, with many memorable Sullivan melodies!
