Just as an historical museum educates us about the history of our region through its collection of books, photos, letters and memorabilia representative of the people who once lived here, paleontology is the study of the environment, life forms and geological processes occurring millions of years ago in our backyard through the study of rocks and fossils. We will learn the basics of geologic time, the origin of local rock outcrops, the chance preservation of strange creatures once living beneath our feet. Class consists of lecture, hands-on lab work, and lots of discussion. Bring your special rock or fossil to class? 5 sessions, 60 minutes each, followed by optional discussion until 9:00 or so. Fee $35.00 Contact Dean Kjerland at 507 645-1380 or visit ArtOnWater Gallery at 217 South Water Street, Northfield during its FOSSILS!!! Exhibition during January. Watch Upcoming.org for details. And check archeopaleo.com for more about us.
