First staged to great acclaim at the Theater de la Porte St. Martin in 1897, Cyrano became one of the most famous French plays of the late 19th century. The story, based on a true historical figure, still attracts audiences today. Beautifully funny, poignant and heart wrenching, “Cyrano de Bergerac” remains one of the most popular romantic tales in all world literature. Through Aquila Theatre’s trademark attention to movement and the visual arts, Cyrano’s passionate journey takes us from the streets of Paris to the battlefield of Arras and the cloisters of the convent where this exquisite story reaches its emotional conclusion.

The cast for this production includes Jamie Bower as Cyrano; Caroline O’Hara as Roxane; James Lavender as DeGuiche and Ragneau; Aaron McDaniel as Christian and Montifluery; James Bellorini as LeBret and ensemble; Angela Christofilou as Lise, Duenna and ensemble; and Tina Mitchell, ensemble. The director/choreographer/production designer for this production is Desiree Sanchez who has been on Aquila’s creative team for the past seven years.

The Aquila Theatre was founded in London in 1991 by Peter Meineck and based in New York City since 1999. Aquila’s mission is to bring the greatest theatrical works to the greatest number. To this end, Aquila presents a regular season of plays in New York, at international festivals and tours to approximately 70 American towns and cities each year. Aquila produces an extensive educational program and is also the professional company in residence at the Center for Ancient Studies at New York University.
