Without the proper training, determining whether an item is a genuine antique, a reproduction or a fake can be difficult. Developing the trained eye of an expert appraiser takes years of study and dedication, but even the average collector, fortified with some basic knowledge, can improve his or her ability to judge the quality and age of items commonly found in the marketplace. Appraiser Beth Szescila, an “Antiques Roadshow” expert, will help participants understand what professionals look for when examining items for identification and appraisal. Each session will include some hands-on study.
