Applebatch.com sets creates contest to prove that teachers know best how to spend stimulus funds and deserve more spending decision power.

CHICAGO, IL – (July 20, 2009)
Applebatch.com is pleased to announce our K-12 Teacher Empowerment Essay Contest to all certified K-12 teacher or principal/admins in the United States. Up to $1,000 in prizes will be given to the top five winners and Applebatch will advocate on behalf of the winners for the stimulus funds they request.

The contest, which runs through Oct.10, 2009, asks participants to write an essay no longer than 500 words asking, “If your school were given a million-dollar stimulus package, how would you spend it and why?” The winning essay writer receives two Southwest Airline tickets, while the rest of the prizes include gift cards to Macy’s, Target, Staples and Starbuck’s.

“We’re doing this contest because we believe in empowering teachers both in and outside the classroom,” said George Hammer III, founder of Applebatch.com. “Their input is important because teachers face challenges each day in their classrooms and know best where the needs are for improvement. If given the chance, they can make the greatest impact.”

Instead of grading essays, teachers have their own chance to use their creativity to express their ideas on what areas of education need more school funding. They will be judged on the identification of the issue, plan for usage of funds and writing quality. The winners will be selected on Oct. 17, 2009.
