Anselm Kiefer: Sculpture and Paintings June 15, 2009

Kiefer is considered to rank not only among the best known and one of the most successful, but also most controversial, of post World War II German artists. Themes from Nazi rule are often reflected in his work. His works are often realized in extremely large formats. He often builds his imagery on top of photographs, layering the massive canvases with dirt, lead, straw and other materials that generate a literal ground that reads of the earth itself.
