Neil Alexander & Nail presents their Annual Winter Solstice Celebration, a free concert at the Newburgh Free Library - rescheduled for Sunday January 11 at 2 PM.
The winter solstice was an important date on ancient calendars. Prehistoric monuments like Stonehenge and Newgrange in Ireland indicate the day with remarkable precision. Neil Alexander & Nail will honor the day with their special blend of red-hot jazz, burning grooves and soaring soundscapes. Traditionally, the Solstice is a time of families and neighborhoods, of sharing and coming together. In the spirit of the season they will be accepting canned food donations. Everyone is invited to join in a drum circle jam session finale. Bring a percussion instrument or a pot and spoon and plan to make a joyful noise to chase the darkness away and celebrate the return of the sun!
Since forming in 1997, Neil Alexander & NAIL continues a commitment to the future of jazz and improvised music. Directing a diverse stylistic palette and fierce musicianship, Neil and his group skillfully blend modern and traditional forms with experimental concepts and electronic music.
