Get set for Pierce College’s Farmwalk, the annual community event and fundraiser for the Pierce College farm. Mark Sunday, April 22, 2012 from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. for country fun with the family.

This is the one time of year the 225 acres of green pastures and country roads dotted with animals is open to the public, offering a festival of attractions that evoke memories of simpler times. Horses, sheep, cows, goats and tons of other animals are waiting to greet you.

Enjoy and even take part in some of dozens of demonstrations ranging from bull whip cracking to sheep shearing, sheep herding, wool spinning and cow milking. Vist with police and their K9 rescue units and the Wolf Connection. Listen to country music; relax and take a nature walk through a canyon overlooking the city.

For the kids, and the kid in everyone, there will be a petting zoo, pony rides, exotic animal show, face-painting, hayrides, large farm equipment, fire engines to climb in and plenty more.

Good eats and fixins' will be provided at old-time prices.

Check out the Equestrian Center to watch all kinds of horse activities, which in the past have included roping, barrel racing, Equestrian Drill Team and mini horse demonstrations.

Information about agriculture and animal science classes offered at Pierce and various other educational displays will be available.

Councilmember Dennis P. Zine, who has attended and sponsored the event for the last 10 years, is on the guest list again, plus LACCD Board of Trustees member Scott Svonkin.

Experienced farm folk, fire fighters and the Forestry Division of the Los Angeles Fire Department, and the groups California Woman for Agriculture and Agriculture in the Classroom will be on hand to answer any questions.

Remember to wear comfortable shoes and bring sunscreen, sunglasses, hats and cameras. Please note that only physical assistance dogs are permitted due to livestock.

Everyone from toddlers through active seniors can enjoy Pierce’s Farmwalk, located on the Pierce College campus at 6201 Winnetka Avenue, Woodland Hills, 91371. The farm is on the west side of campus, so enter on Mason Avenue at Victory Boulevard. Parking is free.

A $5 donation at the entrance is requested per adult. Children under 12 play free. For more information on this year’s Farmwalk call 818-710-4253.
