The Freedom Walk is an official kick-off of the National Cherry Blossom Festival. It is a historical and cultural event which seeks to raise awareness about the Japanese American experience during World War II. The walk also highlights the vigilant role we all must play in upholding the constitutional rights of all Americans. “Bridges From Our Past” is the theme for the 2009 Freedom Walk. The event will consist of a short, noncompetitive walk, performances and remarks by Mayor Adrian Fenty, Secretary Norm Mineta, Francey Youngberg, and Japanese Ambassador Ichiro Fujisaki. The Freedom Walk is free and open to the public, but donations are greatly appreciated. Anyone who makes a donation of $15.00 or more will receive a free gift!
