Chase Cygan is a sweet and very active 4 year old little boy with severe food allergies to MILK, EGGS, SOY, PEANUTS, TREE NUTS, and WHEAT. Chase was diagnosed with his milk, egg, and soy allergies at 2 months old after being hospitalized for 4 days at Hope Children’s Hospital. He carries an Epi-pen with him at all times due to his body going into anaphylactic shock if he comes into contact with any of the above allergens. Chase has been hospitalized 3 times since first being diagnosed. Christopher Van Horn is a happy and active 2 year old with a severe allergy to DAIRY and PEANUTS. He is also allergic to beef, pork, apples, carrots, squash, and green beans. His dairy allergy was diagnosed when he was 6 weeks old after many hospitalizations for breathing difficulty. Chris has experienced severe allergic reactions from eating, drinking or touching products containing dairy or contaminated with dairy. Any contact with even the slightest trace of dairy will cause him to have a life threatening allergic reaction. Christopher carries an Epi- pen and Benedryl at all times in case of any accidental contact.
These food allergies have had a huge impact on both Chase and Christopher’s daily activities, and have prevented them from participating in certain activities. Both families will be receiving an allergy detection dog from Angel Service Dogs in Colorado Springs, Colorado. These dogs will have a huge impact on Chase and Christopher’s lives by giving them the opportunity to have a normal childhood. The dogs will be responsible for detecting any of these allergens in Chase and Christopher’s environments, and prevent others from giving them food that is harmful to their bodies and that could be fatal.
We invite you to join us at a benefit hosted by Chase and Christopher’s family and friends in their honor with the goal of raising funds for their allergy detection dogs scent training, both families travel expenses to Colorado to train with their dogs for 2 weeks, life insurance on the dogs, veterinary care and for another child that is in need of an allergy detection dog.
