The Andersonville Development Corporation will celebrate the 3rd Annual Andersonville Green Week from July 9th to the 15th. The event is a week-long celebration of green living in the Andersonville community. Created as part of the eco-Andersonville initiative, this event will highlight local businesses’ and residents’ commitment to sustainable living through events, demonstrations and fun activities.
This year the Andersonville Green Week will include over 30 programs including kid-friendly events, neighborhood tours, documentary film screenings and more. In addition to numerous smaller events, three major events will be featured during the week: a “pop-up” park, the Green Week Sustainability Fair, and the Green Week Home Brew Contest.
The Green Week opening activity on Monday, July 9th will bring back the ever-popular pop-up park. Located in front of the Swedish American Museum (5211 N Clark), the pop-up park is made possible through a partnership with Gethsemane Garden Center and Patch Landscaping. The park is open to the public. Neighbors and shoppers are encouraged to stop by, enjoy the grassy lawn, play a game or share some music with friends.
New this year, Green Week will host a Sustainability Fair inside the Swedish American Museum on Wednesday, July 11th from 2pm to 7pm. The Fair will feature local businesses, non-profits and other organizations that support and work toward the mission of promoting sustainability. The Fair is a great place to learn about efforts currently underway across Chicago, discover businesses that are leading their industry in greening standards and pick-up tips on how to bring environmentally-friendly practices into your home or business.
The 2012 Green Week will also feature a friendly neighborhood home brew competition. Sponsored by Brew Camp and Mightybytes, the Home Brew Contest will be hosted at the Neo-Futurist Theater (5200 N Ashland) on Thursday, July 12th from 6pm to 9pm. Home-brewers are encouraged to show off their skills for a chance to be named “Best Brew”. The event will showcase 20-25 brewers, food, music and prizes from Brew Camp. Tickets for the event are available at: http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/255124.
