Boston Debut
From the Xilingol Grassland area of Inner Mongolia, a semi-autonomous region of China, AnDa Union combines different traditions and styles of music from all over Inner and Outer Mongolia to create an innovative new sound. Finding inspiration in old and forgotten songs, the 10-member ensemble blends traditional Mongolian throat singing or khoomii with traditional instruments such as the horse-head fiddle or morin huur, a three-holed flute called tsuur or maodun chaoer and Mongolian versions of the dulcimer, zither, lute and mouth harp.
Free lecture/demonstration: Thursday, September 22, 4-5:30pm at New England Conservatory, Pierce Hall, 241 St. Botolph St., Boston.
