Since earliest times humans have explained and understood their universe through the prism of spiritual belief, religious ritual and art. This course explores what archaeologists today have learnt about the spiritual and religious worlds our ancestors once inhabited. We examine how archaeologists can use the silent material remains of long extinct civilisations to piece together their inhabitants world views and religious understandings. We cover the origins of religion, the Neolithic, and the cultures of Egypt, Mesopotamia, Mesoamerica, Greece and Rome. Details of this event may be subject to change.
