Ana Moura: The Soul of Fado
Wed., Jan. 24, 7:30 p.m.
Ana Moura, whose soulful interpretation of Portugal’s fado style has made her a star in Europe, brings her gentle, persuasive magic to Washington audiences for the first time. Accompanied by a trio of guitarists who include producer/arranger Jorge Fernando (longtime guitarist for the late Amalia Rodrigues), Moura has become a leading exponent of this poetic idiom, which personifies the Portuguese psyche as it explores such universal themes as lost love, separation, and longing.
As Moura explains, “It’s very special because it’s all about emotions and feelings. It needs no translation.” Baird Auditorium, National Museum of Natural History, 10th & Constitution Ave., N.W. Members $20, Gen. Admission $25, Senior Member $18. For tickets and information call 202.357.3030 or visit www.smithsonianassociates.org.
