Maestro James Conlon explores contrasting aspects of the conductor’s role: interpretation, artistic vision, inspirational force, technique, and the art of communication with musicians and audiences. He examines, from the perspective of a musician, the sometimes conflicting demands of career, profession, and way of life. He looks at how the role of conductor has changed over the course of history and its impact on our contemporary perception of the symphonic and operatic repertory.
