Comic book legend and Pittsburgh native Jim Shooter is returning to Pittsburgh for a rare appearance at the ToonSeum!
The ToonSeum is proud to host “An Evening with Jim Shooter” from 6-9 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013. The event with the outspoken and sometimes controversial writer and editor will begin with a 6 p.m. VIP reception at the ToonSeum, followed by an on-stage interview at 7:30 and a Q&A session conducted by Wayne Wise, the ToonSeum’s resident comics historian.
In 1965, at age 13, Shooter began writing “Superboy,” “The Legion of Super-Heroes,” “Superman” and other DC Comics. He holds the record as youngest-ever professional comics writer.
In 1976, he became editor of Marvel’s color comics and plotter/layout artist on the “Amazing Spider-Man” syndicated strip. In 1978, he accepted the position of editor in chief under the condition that he would be allowed to improve things for Marvel’s creators. He introduced royalties – as well as a spectrum of other incentives, such as rights and benefits – and attracted a who’s who of talent. As a result, sales boomed.
Later, Shooter founded VALIANT, DEFIANT and Broadway Comics. He served as editor in chief at each of these and was the principal creator of their characters and universes. He currently is the editor in chief of Illustrated Media, a custom comics company.
Tickets for “An Evening with Jim Shooter” are available at jimshooter.eventbrite.com. The cost is $25 for nonmembers and $20 for ToonSeum members. VIP tickets – which include a reception meet-and-greet, signed comic and admission to “An Evening with Jim Shooter” – are $50 for nonmembers and $40 for ToonSeum members.
