An evening talk by General Lord Dannatt June 23, 2011

General Lord Dannatt (Baron Dannatt of Keswick in the County of Norfolk) is one of the most respected and occasionally outspoken British generals of mondern times. He was commissioned into The Green Howards in 1971 and was awarded a Military Cross for gallantry in Northern Ireland in 1973. He became Chief of the General Staff (Head of the Army) in 2006. More recently he has commented on NATO's operations in Libya. He has also used his position to campaign for imporved pay and conditions for our Armed Forces, which earned him a reputation as the 'Soldier's General'. He retired from the Army in 2009, publishing his autobiography 'Leading from the Front' in 2010, which will be available to buy with a book signing after this talk. He became a life peer in January 2011.

There will also be an opportunity before and after the talk to view 'Shoulder to Shoulder', a display of civic objects representing Winchester's long and proud association with our Armed Forces.

There will be a retiring collection at the end of the talk in aid of Combat Stress, Lord Dannatt's preferred Service charity.
