An American Celebration at Mount Vernon July 4, 2007

Mount Vernon invites visitors to the home of the First American Hero for a day-long celebration of Independence Day. The event includes patriotic music, a reading of the Declaration of Independence, a special concert performance, and FREE Happy Birthday, America! Cake (while supplies last). Visitors can also meet "George and Martha Washington" on the estate!

Military demonstrations by the First Virginia Regiment and Maryland Militia will be on display throughout the day including an expansion of the regiment’s encampment, multiple "checkpoints" across the estate, and guards stationed at Washington’s Tomb.

The Sons of the American Revolution will lead a wreathlaying ceremony at the tomb of our nation’s first Commander-in-Chief, and visitors will be able to pay their respect at the Tomb.
