Special guests: Alejandro González Iñárritu & various collaborators will discuss their experiences making this film prior to the screening.
Shot with hand-held immediacy on grainy film stock, AMORES PERROS plunges into the daily activities of 3 individuals as they cope with life in overcrowded, contemporary Mexico City: a pot-smoking young man in love with his brother's pregnant wife who is desperate to get out of town; a perfume model who becomes unhinged when her dog suddenly vanishes through a hole in the floor of her high-rise condo; & a scruffy vagrant who sidelines as a paid killer. The stories, though presented separately & each within its own chapter, begin to brush against each other in disturbing flashes. The audience gradually sees what the characters can't: that the characters' lives will be united by a devastating car crash. Energetic & assured, Iñárritu's invigorating, Oscar-nominated film gets an added jolt of adrenaline from its throbbing sound track.
