Dr. Alan Charles Kors is nationally recognized as one of the foremost defenders of free speech, individual liberty, right of conscience, legal equality, and academic freedom on American campuses. In 1993, he defended a student, Eden Jacobowitz, in the infamous ?water buffalo case,? which led to the writing of The Shadow University ( with Harvey A. Silverglate) and to the founding of the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE) in 1999.
Dr. Kors received his B.A. from Princeton University and his M.A. and Ph. D. from Harvard University. He has won two awards for distinguished college teaching and the Engalitcheff Award for defense of academic freedom. Dr. Alan Kors is Professor of History at the University of Pennsylvania and the chairman of FIRE. He and his wife reside in suburban Philadelphia.
