One of the world’s fastest growing sports, cutting offers tremendous excitement and drama for horse, rider and spectators alike. The competition consists of horse and rider separating a particular cow from a herd. The National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) provides the means by which contests are judged by maintaining a point system which gives definite credits and penalties while providing a fair basis for judging cutting horses and their riders.
In 2003 the National Cutting Horse Association saw record numbers in membership with a total count of 15,534, breaking the long time record from 1985. It is because of these members, the NCHA has been so successful in the cause of the cutting horse. Members consist of people from all walks of life, but each share a true love for the sport of cutting and its horses.
Youth Scholarship Cutting - Each year the American Royal hosts youth cutters from across the Midwest at the Celebrity Cutting event. The benefit dinner, auction, and scholarship cutting help to support the American Royal Scholarship Fund and to directly give scholarship to youth cutting horse participants. The Royal would like to give youth cutters around the country the opportunity to use the sport of cutting to earn money for college and have a pretty good time while doing it. Event information for 2010 will be posted soon.
Celebrity Cutting - In 2010 the American Royal will host the 4th Annual Celebrity Cutting event in conjunction with the Cutting Horse Show. Golf pro, Tom Watson, and baseball great, Greorge Brett will be a few of the celebrities participating.
