The American Pictures Distinguished Lecture Series offers a highly original approach to art and portraiture. This series pairs great works of art with leading figures of contemporary American culture. The series director of American Pictures is Adam Goodheart, director of the C. V. Starr Center for the Study of the American Experience at Washington College.
On March 21, John Waters speaks about Cy Twombly’s "Letter of Resignation." This series continues on April 11 with Jamaica Kincaid on Edward Lamson "Henry’s Kept In;" April 18 Harold Holzer on John Henry Brown’s "Abraham Lincoln;" and April 26 Roz Chast on Charles Addams’s "Boiling Oil."
American Pictures is made possible though the pioneering partnership among Washington College, the National Portrait Gallery and the Smithsonian American Art Museum. The program takes place in the museum's Nan Tucker McEvoy Auditorium. Free and open to the public; tickets will be released one hour prior to the event.
