American Composers Orchestra (ACO) presents Orchestra Underground: A Time & Place at Carnegie Hall’s Zankel Hall. The concert, led by Music Director George Manahan, explores composers’ reactions to specific moments, pinpointed and analyzed, which have inspired them to create something entirely new. A Time & Place includes four world premieres commissioned by ACO: A new piece by Douglas J. Cuomo (composer of the theme from Sex and the City) entitled Black Diamond Express Train to Hell, featuring cellist Maya Beiser as soloist; Jerome Kitzke’s The Fire at 4 a.m, Christopher Trapani’s Westering; and Ryan Francis’s High Line, winner of the ACO/LVMH “A Greener New York City” commission. In addition, ACO will perform Charles Ives’ seminal Central Park in the Dark.
Tickets: $40 or $50 at www.carnegiehall.org, 212-247-7800, or the Carnegie Hall Box Office (154 West 57th Street, NYC)
