LOS ANGELES, July 30 -- The Art Directors Guild (ADG) Film Society and American Cinematheque (AC) will honor Production Designer Richard Day (1896-1972) with a screening of The Chase (1966). This film will be shown on Sunday, August 30, at 5:30 pm at the Aero Theatre (1328 Montana Ave, Santa Monica), as part of this year’s screening series focusing on specific genres of narrative storytelling. Production Designers Albert Brenner (Beaches, 2010), William J. Creber (The Greatest Story Ever Told, The Towering Inferno) and Corey Kaplan (The X-Files, Cold Case) will participate in a panel discussion and brief presentation after the film.
Columbia Pictures’ The Chase will be shown from a “Designing for the Backlot” perspective. Directed by Arthur Penn, screenplay by Lillian Hellman from the play by Horton Foote, and starring Marlon Brando, Jane Fonda and Robert Redford, the film portrays how the escape of one man from prison, in one night, profoundly affects the inhabitants of a small Southern town. Representing the ADG in this screening series are president, Thomas A. Walsh and Production Designer, John Muto. Working with them are the American Cinematheque’s Gwen Deglise and Chris D. The series is in part sponsored by trade publication Below The Line. General admission: $10. American Cinematheque members: $7. Students/Seniors with valid ID: $8. All screenings start at 5:30 p.m. 24-hour ticket information is available at 323-466-FILM (3456).
