Co-sponsored by Asia Society and Chinese Historical Society
Hosted by Rev. Norman Fong Program Director, Chinatown Community Development Center
The very word, “Chinatown” invokes splendor and poverty, beauty and grime, rich scents, exotic food and mystery. Bonnie Tsui’s book, American Chinatown, is a fascinating, no-nonsense look at America’s well-known Chinatowns in New York, Los Angeles, Honolulu, Las Vegas and, of course, San Francisco. Through interviews with both Chinatown old-timers and newcomers, Bonnie Tsui offers everyone a glimpse of the differences and the common threads that make every city’s Chinatown a unique cultural destination.
