K9’S AGAINST CANCER

American Cancer Society Bark for Life invites tri-state area dogs
to bring their owners to the annual “bark” at Riverside Park
New York, NY - Calling all dogs!

"How can a dog like me help fight cancer? We participate every year in Bark For Life! I go for this fun filled walk because I want to see an end to cancer during my lifetime. My Daddy battled cancer when he was young and I know that without research and new treatments, he might not have been here to take me on walks, give me baths and play fetch!” barks Hailey, a Bark For Life participant.

Dogs of all ages, colors, shapes and sizes are invited to bring their owners and meet other dogs at the American Cancer Society’s 19th annual Bark for Life on Sunday, May 2, 2010 in Riverside Park at West 108th Street. Take a stroll around Riverside Park with hundreds of dogs and their owners and enjoy the celebration of our four-legged loved ones. Together, we’ll celebrate canine caregivers (companion, guide, diagnostic, rescue, police, therapy, and service dogs among others) because they help us through our darkest hours showing us unconditional love and security without judgement.

Bark for Life is a non-competitive walk-a-thon and festival for hundreds of New York City dogs and their families. The sponsors of this year’s walk are Fifth Avenue Veterinary Specialists, Modern Dog Magazine, Fido Friendly, The Bark, and Q104.3. The money raised by the participants at Bark help the American Cancer Society save lives and create a world with more birthdays by helping people stay well, get well, find cures and fight back. Last year, the event rose more than $170,000 and more than 1,500 dogs and humans joined in the fun to fight cancer.

The walk begins at 10 a.m. There will also be contests such as My Dog is Cuter than Your Dog and Best Costume. Various paw-friendly activities are scheduled until 1 p.m., and vendors will be on site. Participants are welcome to remain after the event to enjoy the beauty of Riverside Park.

Register now! Registration is $20.00 and includes a “doggy bag” full of goodies. Register on-line at RelayForLife.org/NYCBark. You can also register by mailing or faxing a registration form that can be found in a Bark for Life brochure a various pet service locations throughout the city. Day-of registration will take place at the Registration tent, located at Riverside Park and West 108th Street between 9 and 10 a.m. on May 2, 2010, rain or shine.
