For eight years, Amate: Women Painting Stories (formerly Pinta tu Propio Mundo) has celebrated a richly diverse and talented group of women artists of color. Founded and organized by writer Leticia Hernández, this event has grown over the years from a small poetry reading to a multidisciplinary showcase of established and emerging women artists. Galería de la Raza will light up the Mission district neighborhood on Saturday October 24th with performances by three incredibly accomplished poets: Sandra García Rivera, Irene Faye Duller and Aida Salazar. Closing off the night is a special performance by the Los Angeles based son jarocho group, Las No Que No! Local women artists will be selling one-of-a kind goods during the event, with DJ Special K providing the soundtrack.
