'Amadeus' is the 1981 Tony-Award winning play by Peter Schafer. At the play's center is Antonio Salieri, a devout musician who has prayed all his life to be the conduit for God's music on earth. When a boorish and infantile young musical prodigy--Wofgang Amadeus Mozart --appears in Vienna and Salieri recognizes that God has bestowed his musical gifts on Mozart, he vows to revenge himself on God by destroying Mozart.
