Fiery rock n’ roll band Aloud makes their hometown debut, performing at The Wallflower Gallery on Tuesday, February 17, as a part of their 2009 Fan The Fury Tour. Aloud is known for their powerful boy/girl vocal team, smart lyrics, and hooky melodies. Miami’s native son & daughter, Henry Beguiristain and Jen de la Osa front Aloud. The pair met in Coral Gables as teenagers when they first started writing songs and performing together, mostly at friends’ birthday parties. In 2001, Jen and Henry left their hometown in search of a better rock scene. Henry explains, “Miami was extremely tough on us musically. If it wasn't salsa, hardcore, or rap-rock, which was big at the time, it was hard getting the time of day.” Jen and Henry landed in Boston where they formed Aloud, released three CDs, and started touring year-round.
Jen and Henry are thrilled to bring Aloud to Miami for the first time. “I would say Miami shaped the content of our lyrics quite a bit and I suppose our general perspective on life,” Jen says. “It was and still is where we spent most of our lives.”
“We're pretty excited to finally be playing at the Wallflower Gallery,” Henry says. “After the Warehouse Cafe closed down in 2000, the Wallflower became our hangout before we packed it up and headed to Boston. We saw some really great performances there, and when we found out the place was still running in 2009 we were thrilled.”
Jen and Henry are especially curious to see how the rock scene in Miami has developed. Henry says, “I was very impressed with [local band] Ex Norwegian's music and I'm looking forward to seeing them live.” Aloud is also excited to share the stage with locals Halosolar.
Aloud is currently touring in support of their CD Fan The Fury. Other cities on the tour include New York, Washington DC, Raleigh, Columbia, Tallahassee, and Philadelphia.
Fan The Fury was produced in NYC by former Sony mix engineer Chuck Brody, whose other independent projects include work with Northern State, American Princes, Five O’ Clock Heroes, and Yoko Ono. The CD features Aloud’s dual vocal team of matter-of-fact tenor/screamer Henry Beguiristain and extraordinary alto/crooner Jen de la Osa. The pair recites and belts over their own shimmering guitars and rockin’ drum/bass rhythms. A dynamic collection, Fan The Fury is ‘packed with twenty-something rage, but also brims with flourishes and crescendos’ (AlgoRhythms). Since the official Boston release last March, Fan The Fury has received rave reviews from alt weeklies and bloggers throughout the Northeast and beyond. Tracks from the CD are currently being broadcast on over 100 college radio stations nationwide.
