Sandra Lee Gallery is proud to present 'Allegories of the Human Figure'. Featuring works from five different artists, the show collects and contrasts a panoply of visions of the human form.
'Allegories of the Human Figure' includes selected paintings from internationally renowned artist Brett Amory. Amory's works depict the urban individual's yearning for presence and the seeming impossibility of attaining it. The reductive elements of the paintings extend the frozen moments they capture. Also present are works by Lawrence McAdams whose images have a filmic, visceral quality. His paintings provide snapshots that depict the intangibles of the human form that fluctuate between inspiring and intriguing the viewer. Sara Scribner's figures are personal, poetic explorations of the human form. Possessing a subtle vibrancy, their semi-abstract elements are contrasted with their roots in traditional figurative painting. Jeff Palladini employs a pop-art visual vocabulary that renders the body faceless. His works communicate the subtle nuances of human interaction through the body language of figures within narrative situations. Michelle Jader utilizes the transparent qualities of layered acrylic panels to express movement, and the lack of opacity we have in those most vulnerable moments.
Individually these works speak to each artist's personal perception of the human form. Displayed together they become a powerful catalogue that highlights the myriad allegories that such forms provoke.
