All Roads Film Festival October 4, 2007

The National Geographic All Roads Film Festival returns this fall to Washington, D.C. to present contemporary stories of indigenous and underrepresented minority cultures through a four-day showcase of film, photography and music. All Roads will be held at National Geographic headquarters from Oct. 4-7, 2007. An art market, featuring international foods and handicrafts by global artisans will be held Oct. 6-7, 2007.

FREE Events:
• Preview screening of "Miss Navajo," a feature documentary by All Roads seed grantee Billy Luther (Navajo/Hopi/Laguna Pueblo), that follows the contestants of the annual Miss Navajo Nation competition, the most traditional of all beauty pageants, on Wed., Oct. 3, 2007 at 7 PM. Limited seating.
• Walk-through photography exhibit Oct. 4-7, 2007, featuring selected photo essays: “Along the Lines,” by Oded Bality (Israel); “Images of Lagos/Oil Pipeline Explosion in Lagos, Nigeria,” by Akintunde Akinleye (Nigeria); “Paradise in Pain,” Altaf Qadri (Kashmir); and “Highland Mongolian Life,” by A Yin (Mongolia). No tickets required.
• Balkan Beat Box music concert Fri., Oct. 5 at 9:30 PM. Balkan Beat Box will be performing songs from its just-released second album “Nu Med,” melding rhythms from all over the Mediterranean, that combines dancehall grooves with hip hop beats, infused with Jewish, Balkan, Arabic, Syrian, European, Moroccan and American influences. No tickets required.

The All Roads Film Festival is a dynamic, four-day multimedia event that includes live musical performances and photography displays in addition to short- and long-form features and documentaries. The festival is part of the All Roads Film Project, which supports diverse cultural perspectives through the film festival, grants, a photography program and other opportunities for filmmakers and photographers to celebrate the vibrant cultural stories of our world.
