On Tuesday, May 18 at 7 pm award winning national poet Alicia Ostriker will give a reading at PCC’s Rock Creek Campus (Building 2, room 122).****
Ostriker will be reading from her twelfth collection of poems, The Book of Seventy, which won the 2009 National Jewish Book Award for Poetry as well as the Paterson Lifetime Achievement Award. ****
Ostriker has been a poet since the late 1970s. She has written critical books on women’s poetry and on the Bible, and she has received awards from the Guggenheim Foundation. She was a two-time National Book Award finalist and is a faculty member at several universities as well as a professor emeritus at Rutgers University. ***
PCC poetry instructor Alison Apotheker learned of Ostriker’s West Coast tour from a mutual friend and raised the money to host the poet for an event at Rock Creek. “She is a big deal in the po’ world,” said Apotheker. ***
