For his first solo exhibition in London since 2005, British artist Alastair Mackie (born 1977) will present a new group of three major sculptures. The works in the show have been especially commissioned for the David Roberts Art Foundation and have been produced over the last past 12 months. The title of the show is taken from a poem by Stevie Smith.
For this show Mackie is in the process of meticulously building a model house made from the wood pulp of approximately 300 abandoned wasps’ and hornets’ nests entitled House, 2008. Other works on show will include a large scale wooden loom with a material woven from mouse hair, entitled Untitled (+/-) (2008), and a dome-shaped, 1930's mirrored display case entitled Metamorphoses, 2008.
