Planning, Packaging and Promoting Yourself as a Product
Designers, writers, illustrators and photographers are always assisting clients in selling their products and services. But how well are you selling yourself? According to author and designer Jeff Fisher, the Engineer of Creative Identity for the Portland-based firm Jeff Fisher LogoMotives, the key to getting that perfect job or attracting new clients and more work is planning, packaging and promoting yourself as a product. Fisher will help you determine what "product" should be in your package, then offers tips and advice for creating the appearance of the product, getting it on the right shelf in the market, explaining your product to potential customers, and getting those customers to buy your product again and again.

Jeff Fisher, author of "Identity Crisis!: 50 redesigns that transformed stale identities into successful brands" (HOW Books, 2007), is the Engineer of Creative Identity for the Portland-based firm Jeff Fisher LogoMotives. A 32-year graphic design veteran, he has been honored with over 600 regional, national and international design awards and is featured in over 140 books about logos, the design business, and small business marketing. His first book, "The Savvy Designer's Guide to Success" was released in 2004 and has been reissued as a PDF on CD. Fisher is currently completing a new volume, with the title of "“Logo Type: 200 Best Typographic Logos from Around the World Explained,” about typography in identity design. It is scheduled for a 2011 release.
Fisher serves on the HOW Magazine Board of Advisors, the HOW Design Conference Advisory Council and the Art Institute of Portland Professional Advisory Council. The designer also writes for HOW Magazine, other industry publications, and many webzines and blogs. He often teaches courses, seminars and workshops on design, branding, marketing and social networking. In addition, Fisher is a nationally-recognized speaker, making numerous presentations each year to design organizations, design schools, universities and business groups. Graphic Design USA magazine named Jeff Fisher one of its design industry “People to Watch” for 2009.
