It is often not enough to be talented at your craft when you're a design professional; you must also be business savvy. If you want to be independent, make a profit and keep doing what you love, you must embody both the creative and entrepreneurial mindset.
To help you do just that, AIGA Portland presents, “The Business of Graphic Design,” a series of Career Tools breakfast seminars sponsored by Aquent. Whether you’re a student designer or a long-time freelancer, attending these events will hone your business skills, refine your process, and help you be successful even in turbulent times. Presenter Edward Flynn will take you through the first part of the series as he discusses bidding and budgeting, two crucial parts of running a small design business. Learn how to figure out your hourly worth, how to price and bid on jobs, how to win bids, and how to stay on budget.
The event features pre-recorded video interviews with notable Portland creatives including Aaron Draplin of Draplin Design, Jason Duerr of Dropkick Design, Eric Hillerns from Pinch, Kate Ertmann from ADi, and an assortment of other top freelancers and small firm owners here in the Portland area.
