In Big Night (dir. Campbell Scott and Stanley Tucci, 1996, 107 min.), Primo and Secondo are two brothers who have emigrated from Italy to open an Italian restaurant in America. Facing few patrons, but unwilling to compromise their food, they gamble on hiring a rising jazz musician to attract as many customers as possible on a single night. The awkward and humorous interaction between the two brothers played by Tony Shalhoub and Stanley Tucci and Minnie Driver's turn as a romantic interest garnered the film international recognition for its acting and screenwriting.
The Agri-foods reading group has organized a series of films on food throughout the 2009-10 academic year. Members of the group will facilitate a short (approx. 30 min.) discussion after each film.
