Joy Medley Lyons, Chief of Programs at Mammoth Cave National Park, will speak about Stephen Bishop, the famous enslaved cave explorer who was owned by Dr. John Croghan. Bishop visited Locust Grove and drew his famous map of the cave system here. Ms. Lyons has a new book out, Making their Mark: The Signature of Slavery at Mammoth Cave and has done considerable research about the slaves who worked at the cave. The theme of the 2007 Lecture Series is "They Came to Locust Grove - Interesting Visitors to the Home." The Locust Grove Afternoon Lecture Series is held the first Wednesday of each month. Dessert and coffee are served at 1:00 pm with the lecture immediately following at 1:15 PM.
