AFS Essential Cinema: CAMA ADENTRO (LIVE-IN MAID) December 23, 2008

For 30 years Dora has served faithfully and meticulously as Beba’s maid. Their relationship has become so routine and unremarkable that Beba assumes she will always have the maid at hand, no matter how thoughtless and cruel she can be at times. Then comes economic disaster and Dora sees no way to keep Beba on as her live-in maid. However, the employee has much better prospects of surviving than the employer, who turns to selling cosmetics. Her former upper-class status makes delving into the world of sales too difficult, so, in desperation she goes to Dora for help. This incisive portrait of two women reveals the Argentinean class system turned on its head, with a mixture of humor and pathos.
