African Elephant Crossing Opening May 6, 2011

Plans for the opening include a four-day festival atmosphere with music, activities for the whole family, Meet-The-Keeper opportunities and a chance to meet the Zoo's newest mascots. And because we expect many of our local Northeast Ohio partners to be joining us in the festivities, this is a weekend party you won't want to miss. Zoo visitors will get their first glimpse of the the new African village atmosphere of African Elephant Crossing and see the Zoo's elephants in the outdoor ranges of their new habitat. The Zoo will also be introducing other new African animals: meerkats, naked mole rats, colorful African birds and a rock python. It will also be the first time Zoo visitors will have a chance to enter the new elephant building built on the foundation of the historic Pachyderm Building.
