Ceremonial textiles have long played a central role in African societies conveying wealth, status, artistry and fashion. Most are characterized by the striking combinations of colors and bold designs as well as the use of traditional patterning. This installation will feature a selection of large African ceremonial textiles shown in their entirety. African Ceremonial Cloths will present a variety of techniques and materials such as bark cloth, resist dyeing, stenciling, strip weaving, embroidery and woven patterning.
