The African Art Collection focuses on the cultures of West Africa as it relates to the ancestral heritage of African Americans. The objects range from spiritual masquerade items to aesthetic bronze sculptures from Benin. The majority of the collection comes to the museum through the generosity of Al and Dana Henderson. The collection can be strengthened by adding West African art objects that embody cultural and aesthetic practices that have influenced the development of African American culture.
