The collection features very high quality figure sculptures of bronze, clay, wood, and brass by the Fang, Kota, Yoruba, Mende, Akan, Chokwe, Bankoni, Nok, Djenne, Pangwe, Kuba, and the Giriama peoples. The African holdings contain particular depth in Akan gold weights, brass and bronze body ornaments, and Zulu beadwork, and include an important collection of masks from the sub-Saharan region.
