In 1994, Ismael Diadie Haidara, a Muslim historian in Timbuktu, Mali learned that his family was descended from Jews. He began a decade-long quest to build a community of Muslims who identify with the Jewish people and seek the support of Jews from around the world.
Rick Gold, a specialist in international development programming who served 29 years in the Foreign Service of the U.S. Agency for International Development, will share his experience working with the Jews of Timbuktu. He is a former President of Machar, The Washington, D.C. Congregation for Secular Humanistic Judaism.
