The Memory Band was conceived as an imaginary band, built inside a computer and made real by the contributions of numerous musicians. Live, it is an acoustic band of ever changing numbers who are at the forefront of a new approach to traditional music. Featuring violins, harmoniums, guitars and whatever else is available The Memory Band perform pieces written by Stephen Cracknell, aka Leaf Labler Gorodisch, who also produced the Memory Bands eponymous LP. Just 23 years of age and hailing from Eccles, Aidan Smith has the ability to blend jauntiness and tragedy like the best of North Country entertainers. Managing to soak up most of the best music of the 20th century, Aidan’s sound is a curious mesh of pre-war Lancastrian nostalgia and modern day twisted folk.
