This year’s new work commissioned by the mjf Originals scheme is by Adam Fairhall, a pianist-composer who has written a suite in celebration of the American vernacular forms, sounds and influences of early jazz, blues, rags and stomps. Channelling his interpretations through the musical prism of the 21st century, he creates a sound-world that is as surprising as it is reverential.
With the band resplendent in costume, an assortment of hitherto overlooked instruments and a line-up of esteemed players well-versed in contemporary and historical jazz, Adam re-shapes the way we look at traditional forms of jazz. A Manchester Jazz Festival event.
There will be a post-show discussion with Adam, free to ticket-holders.
