PM Lee Hsien Loong, in his 2011 National Day Rally speech, urged Singaporeans to “come forward to play a larger and positive role,” “to make something happen and to make a difference to the lives of others”. Broadly defined, active citizenship is about being literate in matters concerning our public life and using this knowledge to take action individually or collectively by participating and engaging in and affecting decisions and processes, or challenging existing structures and principles.
In line with promoting literacy in public life, the School of Arts and Social Sciences, SIM University (UniSIM), will be holding a social science forum to encourage and promote the call to “make it happen, stand up and do our part to shape Singapore’s future”. Speakers representing the following sectors have been invited to share their inspirations, the social impact of their work, and the sustainability of their vision:
• Media and the Citizen
• Heritage and the Citizen
• Corporate Social Responsibility
• Social Entrepreneurship
• Citizenship, Leadership and Motivation
Venue: LT2.37, SIM HQ
SIM University, 461 Clementi Road
